Lucky 4D: Milking the suckers
KUALA LUMPUR: For a small bet, you can look forward to a prized catch. All you need to do is have faith in the purveyors, and give them some … or all … you have.
Peddlers of good fortune are out there, preying on the weak of mind, desperate for money or hooked on betting.
They come in various disguises, offering “special” prayers, usually in Thai temples such as Wat Nakhorn or Wat Patalong, for a small fee of RM10. They then give “lucky” numbers to punters for fees as high as RM150 each.
They sell their “services” through flyers and brochures containing testimonials of past winners that are distributed or slotted into your mailbox.
