MIC needs to do the right thing
KUALA LUMPUR: Many people have forgotten that MIC is a party in itself, and not just a part of Barisan Nasional (BN), said MIC strategy director S Vell Paari.
“When the party was formed, it was to enhance or benefit the Indian community. Now that we are in BN, we sometimes forget our role.
“We must understand that BN is like a club with a few members but that we ourselves are an individual in our own right. We have to do what is right. By what is right, I mean what the MIC was formed for,” he said in an interview with theantdaily.
“So sometimes we have to make a stand on certain issues. It doesn’t matter whose foot we have to stand on or whether we are going to anger people within BN; we have to say what is right.
“When they make a certain stand, do they worry about whether we are getting upset? No, right?” asked Vell Paari (pix, top).
When asked why he was suddenly more vocal now, he said he had always been active in the party but had chosen to play a more active role now.
“Although I was a member of the party earlier, at that time my father was the president. If I had come out and said anything, they would have said this fellow is using his father’s influence to come out today with these statements and because his father is there, he thinks he can do what he wants.
“That is why I remained quiet. After my father retired, I took a more active role,” he said.
Vell Paari also denied his father played any role in his efforts to “push” MIC president Datuk Seri G Palanivel on certain issues.
“Let me tell you something. My father has never influenced me in any issues,” he said.
